The Aragon Hotel is a small step away from the heart of history, with its most imposing neighbor being the Palace of the Kings of Majorca. This gigantic 13th-century fortress still dominates rooftops within eyesight all over town and lies just an easy pleasant walk 10 to15 minutes from the hotel. Its gardens and gothic courtyards command amongthe best views inthe cityover rooftops out toward Mount Canigou.

In a short 10-minute walk in the other direction, you will find Le Castillet, that symbolic red-brick gatehouse which now contains the Catalan Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions. From here, you are immediately within the pedestrian heart of the city where narrow streets wind through what was once known as Saint-Jean. Here too is located Cathedral St John the Baptist (Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste) with its remarkable iron belfry to be admired.

The area is perfectly walkable. Some brasseries and tapas bars have set up along the bank of La Basse river, throwing an atmosphere of outdoor dining that seems to be so well appreciated in the south. Sit at one of the cafes on marble-paved Place de la Loge-main square- and watch life go by; this is all within walking distance too.[33] Have a quick rest in your room before you hit dinner again later at night, without ever needing a taxi.
